THE SYLVIA AND OWEN NEAL FAMILY FUND

The Neal Family Fund commits its resources to individual young people who are powerful change agents in their own right. The Fund supports students that demonstrate a commitment to community and service, despite seemingly insurmountable challenges. Awards are distributed as the students matriculate to post-secondary institutions.

SYLVIA AND OWEN NEAL

The Neal family immigrated to the United States in the 1980s, looking to have better lives than the limited options that existed in Jamaica due to political unrest. Mr. and Mrs. Neal settled with their family on Prospect Street in Lawrence, Massachusetts. They worked hard to create a viable future for their eight children and for future generations. Fortified in the principles of faith, education and service, the family did not relent when Mrs. Neal was laid off from her position as a data entry clerk, or when she subsequently found work as a flocker, only for fire to burn the building to the ground. Nor did the family despair when Mr. Neal suffered a terrible work-related injury in his overnight job as a machine operator. Like many immigrants to the United States, the Neal family committed to a strong work ethic and persevered even in the face of enormous challenge.

The Sylvia and Owen Neal Family Fund and ProspectNeal Consulting were created in honor of Sylvia and Owen Neal (1942-2008), the parents of principal and founder Ricardo O. Neal.
